Missing mom Kelsey Berreth’s fiancé was ‘always mad about something’: friend
The fiancé of a Colorado mother missing since Thanksgiving “was always mad about something” and “borderline emotionally abusive,” the woman’s close friend said.
Ashley Cogburn told “CBS This Morning” Tuesday that she saw red flags in the relationship of Kelsey Berreth, her friend since elementary school, and Berreth’s fiancé, Patrick Frazee.
“The moment I found out that she had been missing, the first words that came out of my mouth was, ‘He did something to her,’” Cogburn said.
“She couldn’t win…,” Cogburn said. “The things that he would say to her were somewhat demeaning…”
One one occasion, Berreth came to her friend in tears over something Frazee had said or done to her, Cogburn said.
“Kelsey is this — she’s a tough girl … and I can’t remember specifics, but I just remember gathering, ‘This person is borderline emotionally abusive to you right now,’” she said.
Berreth, 29, was last seen publicly shopping with her 1-year-old daughter on Thanksgiving Day and is presumed dead, though her body hasn’t been found. Frazee, the father of Berreth’s child, has been charged with her murder and three counts of trying to solicit someone to commit murder.
Frazee is locked up in a cell in the Teller County jail. His next court date is Feb. 19.
The couple’s daughter is now in the care of Berreth’s parents.
