Members of the Druid Order performed an ancient ritual outside the Tower of London today to mark the Spring Equinox.
The group appeared next to the tower to hold their ceremony stamping the start of ‘astronomical’ spring.
Dressed in their traditional white robes, the procession of druids formed a large circle to perform the ancient ceremony. At exactly 3.33pm today, the sun passed directly above the equator, bringing nearly equal amounts of day and night on all parts of Earth.
‘The March equinox – also called the vernal equinox – is the astronomical beginning of the spring season in the Northern Hemisphere,’ NASA explained.

‘Seasons are reversed in the Southern Hemisphere where it will be autumn, also known as fall.’
The spring equinox, which usually occurs no later than March 20, is the point at which night and day are of equal length.
The Earth is tilted on its axis, meaning that as the planet orbits the sun, the sun illuminates the northern or southern hemisphere more depending on where the Earth is along its orbit.
However, at two points in the year the Sun will illuminate the northern and southern hemispheres equally. These are known as the equinoxes.
‘The March equinox – also called the vernal equinox – is the astronomical beginning of the spring season in the Northern Hemisphere’, said NASA
