Marvel ‘to grant’ dying fan’s final wish letting him see Avengers Endgame early

Fans across the world are eagerly anticipating April 26, the day that the Avengers: Infinity War sequel premieres in cinemas.

The next Marvel film will allow fans to discover the fate of earth’s mightiest heroes, from Iron Man to Captain America and Black Widow.

But a terminally ill follower of the franchise has shared his fears for not being able to make it to the opening day of the movie.

And it seems Disney, the owners of Marvel, may have heard his prayers and are planning to grant his wishes and allow him a very special experience.

The 33-year-old man from Australia, known only as Alexander, took to Reddit earlier this month to reveal his desperate desire to watch an early screening of Avengers Endgame.

He revealed in a post that he is currently suffering with a rare disease known as Fanconi Anemia, which has given him liver cancer, mouth cancer and bone marrow failure.

After being diagnosed in 2018, he was given a year to live and now claims he will "probably be dead before April".

He wrote: "I’ve heard of people getting early screenings before. How do I get in on this action?

"I’m not a child or anyone with a particularly tragic story. Just a normal guy. I’m 33, lost my sister three years ago to the same rare genetic disease it turns out I have too.

"I’ll leave behind a devoted girlfriend and an adopted greyhound."

He added: "I thought I’d make it to April at least but my bone marrow is toast."

His post went viral, with thousands of people picking it up and taking the cause over to Twitter, starting the hashtag #Avengers4Alexander.

People began messaging the accounts of the film’s directors Anthony and Joe Russo as well as the various stars of the film.

According to an update, Alexander later added to his Reddit thread, someone who knows Chris Hemsworth, the actor who plays Thor, contacted him personally to tell him about the campaign.

He also claimed he’d had contact with people who hinted that "Marvel higher ups" were aware of the situation and were planning something.

Finally he shared the news everyone had been waiting to hear – Disney had emailed him and his dream was going to become a reality.

"Disney have reached out and we are discussing options," he said. "I cried when I read their email. It’s everything I hoped for and I owe it all to you."

Alexander lived a healthy life until 2017, when he was diagnosed with mouth cancer and had to have most of his jaw amputated.

Shortly after this, he developed marrow cancer and liver cancer and says was given a year at most to live.

Those keen to donate to help fun research into Alexander’s disease, can do so here.

Disney have been contacted for comment.
