Man reckons big belly saved his life after tumbling down 15 stairs at Wetherspoons and suffering brain bleed – The Sun

A MAN who fell down the stairs in a pub reckons his big belly saved his life.

Colin Hayes, 61, suffered bleeding on the brain when he tumbled down the 15 steps to the loo — where another man had a fatal fall last week.

Grandad Colin, 19st at the time, said docs told him he could have died if his stomach had not cushioned the impact.

The former doorman said: “I don’t remember anything about the fall.

“After I came round in hospital the doctors told me that had I been slimmer I would probably be dead. It was my stomach that got in the way and stopped me falling straight on my head.”

Colin spent four days in hospital after the fall last August and has since lost 2st.

He added: “My weight probably saved my life.”

Two other men have fallen on the same stairs at the Christopher Creeke Wetherspoon pub in Bournemouth in the past eight months.

One in his 40s went into cardiac arrest last Sunday and later died in hospital.

A spokesman for JD Wetherspoon said health and safety checks after the latest incident found no defects.

He insisted: “There was no risk to the public.”
