A man who sexually assaulted, beat and taunted a Halifax-area sex worker with death before she was rescued by police has been sentenced to seven years in jail.

Pablo Moises Alas had no criminal history when he attacked the escort in her Dartmouth home a few weeks before Christmas 2016.

According to a written ruling released Monday, Alas punched her in the face, choked her and told her she was going to die.

The 30-year-old forced her to perform multiple sex acts, and told her he was a psychopath and that “he could not do this anymore.”

She was able to call 911, and ran screaming and naked from the waist down when police came to her door.

Justice Timothy Gabriel handed down a seven-year sentence, as recommended by the Crown and defence.
