Inmate sought hit man to kill brother-in-law over suspected cheating wife: cops
A Connecticut inmate with suspected Latin Kings gang ties asked a fellow prisoner to have his brother-in-law “put in dirt” in a murder-for-hire plot for $5,000, authorities said.
Joseph Arroyo, a 29-year-old inmate at Osborn Correctional Institution in Somers, was charged Tuesday with inciting injury against a person after the plot was uncovered in May when Arroyo allegedly passed a note to another inmate that was intercepted by a correctional officer, the Waterbury Republican American reports.
Both Arroyo and the second prisoner knew each other from their time with the Latin Kings street gang, authorities later discovered. Arroyo allegedly asked the suspected gang member that a hit man start following his wife, a Brooklyn, New York, woman whom he suspected of cheating on him.
Arroyo also allegedly asked the fellow prisoner to put his brother-in-law “in the dirt ASAP,” believing that the 25-year-old man was the source of Arroyo’s ongoing marital problems with his wife, the newspaper reports.
Authorities said the note contained the woman’s address, as well as her work schedule, the color of her dogs and even what time the door to her Brooklyn residence would be unlocked.
The second prisoner, a former Naugatuck resident, also said he knew of another Latin Kings gang member who would not hesitate “getting dirty,” indicating that he would do anything asked of him. Arroyo and that high-ranking Latin Kings member were later overheard discussing the proposed killing, including how Arroyo would make $5,000 in payments, according to state police investigators.
Arroyo said he didn’t even care if his wife’s children witnessed the murder, saying he wanted that “[expletive] done,” a witness told police.
“If that’s what has to happen, then that’s what has to happen,” Arroyo allegedly told a witness. “They’ll get over it.”
Arroyo also requested that his wife’s colleagues be kidnapped and tortured while she would be held hostage in the back of a truck until authorities had to release him from prison, the witness reported to police.
Arroyo, who was serving time following a second-degree assault conviction, remained in custody Thursday. He had been scheduled to be released from prison in October, jail records show. He now faces up to 10 years if convicted on the new charges, the Republican-American reports.
The investigation into Arroyo’s alleged plot started last May, WTIC reports.
