His mother Aisha, 20, told the programme: ‘It feels like a very strange TV episode that I don’t have the script for.

‘I don’t know what I’m meant to say or do. I think my brain is very good at covering stuff up. I know what’s happened, but I don’t think it’s real.

‘I knew I was an amazing Mum, but it was so much easier thinking he was taken off me by social services and having that chance to see him again.

‘But you can’t sit in your little fantasy land and pretend he’s with his grandparents or he’s with his aunties or uncles or taken off you by social.

Her mother Mandy Steed told Channel 4: ‘I was going to go with her to this night out, but it was pouring with rain and I was tired.

‘So, I said to her: ‘I’m not going to bother.’ Lisa said: ‘OK then. Don’t worry. I will see you tomorrow. Love you.’ And I said the same back to her.

‘I keep thinking: ‘If I’d perhaps gone that night.’ I don’t know what I’d have done, but I think: ‘If I’d gone out with her, she might still be here today.’
