Culture and Tourism Minister Lori Sigurdson said the facility will help bring Edmontonians together.
“We know to have vibrant communities we need places to gather and connect,” Sigurdson said
“It creates inclusiveness in our province and we know we have a very active community league system here in Edmonton.”
Sigurdson said construction on the project is scheduled start immediately and be complete in 2021, which will also mark the federation’s 100 anniversary.
The Edmonton federation said it’s been working on making the project a reality since 2011.
“A really important part is telling our story and our history to all of Edmonton, but also to new people that come to Edmonton, to visitors that come to our park,” EFCL executive director Laura Cunningham-Shpeley said.
“It’s an excellent plaza and we’re so excited we have this level of support from the provincial government.”
The funding comes from the community facility enhancement program large grant.
