Government vows to ban puppy farms in crackdown on cruel breeders and sellers
The move was announced as thousands of families prepare for the arrival of a puppy for Christmas this week.
Dog-lover Theresa May hopes it will bring an end to terrible welfare conditions found in puppy farming.
New laws will outlaw third party sales of puppies and kittens, making it harder for high-volume breeders – who have little regard for the well-being of animals.
The move follows a public consultation in which there was over 95 per cent support for a ban.
Animal Welfare Minister David Rutley said: “The ban is part of our commitment to make sure the nation’s much-loved pets get the right start in life.”
