Former Mountie accused of misconduct in Surrey Six investigation pleads guilty
Another Mountie accused of misconduct in one of the biggest investigations in the province’s history pleaded guilty in B.C. Supreme Court in downtown Vancouver on Tuesday morning.
Former Staff Sgt. David Attew, sitting in the prisoner’s dock wearing a dark suit, quietly pleaded guilty to “failing to maintain law and order” under the RCMP Act as a top investigator in the Surrey Six investigation.
A publication ban prevents media from reporting specific details of the case.
Attew is set to be sentenced later in the day.
Attew, now retired, is one of four officers accused of misconduct in the case.
Last week, ex-RCMP Sgt. Derek Brassington pleaded guilty to breach of trust and obstructing justice and was sentenced to house arrest and community service.
A third investigator is expected to enter a guilty plea on Tuesday afternoon as well.
Six people were shot to death, execution-style, in a Surrey high-rise in 2007.
Two of the victims were innocent bystanders.
