Does Kyle Rittenhouse have a criminal record? False rumor explained

SINCE 17-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse was arrested for allegedly shooting two people fatally and seriously injuring a third on Tuesday night, images have circulated social media pinning a criminal record to the teenager.

Rittenhouse took a rifle to protests that broke out in Kenosha, Wisconsin, after a police officer shot a black man, Jacob Blake, seven times in the back.

Here is more on Rittenhouse and the criminal record that some social media users are attaching to him.

Who is Kyle Rittenhouse?

Rittenhouse is a teenager from Antioch, Illinois, who idolized the police and posted “Blue Lives Matter” on his social media platforms.

He reportedly dropped out of high school and shadowed the Grayslake Police Department and Antioch Fire Department as a cadet.

On Tuesday, Rittenhouse drove 20 miles form Antioch across the state border to Kenosha with a rifle and medical kit and told the Daily Caller, “Part of my job also is to protect people.”

A video captured Rittenhouse holding a rifle and seeming to say he “just killed somebody” while running from a man fatally shot in the head.

Does he have a criminal record?

Twitter users began circulating screenshots of a criminal record for Kyle Rittenhouse that included charges of operating a firearm while intoxicated, failing to obey a traffic officer or signal, and possession of drugs.

However, as others pointed out, a search for Kyle Rittenhouse’s name on the Wisconsin Circuit Court Access website pulls up two people with the same name.

Those charges appear to be tied to Kyle Joseph Rittenhouse, who is 31 years old, in Rock County.

The court access website shows three case numbers for Kyle Howard Rittenhouse, who is 17 years old, in Kenosha County and appears to matches the description of the Kenosha shooting suspect.

All three files state, “case has not been concluded. Unless a judgment of conviction is entered, the defendant is presumed innocent of all charges.”

A BuzzFeed News story on Wednesday identified Rittenhouse as having the middle name Howard.

Did his mom Wendy drive him to Kenosha the night of the shooting?

Rittenhouse reportedly drove himself to Kenosha the night of the shooting.

His mother, Wendy, in January 2017 sought an order of protection from police because a classmate of her son apparently threatened him and called him “stupid” and “dumb,” reported the Chicago Tribune according to court records.

Who did he allegedly kill?

Rittenhouse allegedly shot and killed Anthony Huber, 26, and Joseph Rosenbaum, 36.

He allegedly shot and seriously injured Gaige Grosskreutz, 26.
