Council grass-cutter crushed by his ride-on lawnmower after it flipped over is rescued by firefighters and rushed to hospital
A council worker had to be rescued by firefighters after his ride-on lawnmower flipped over and trapped him beneath it.
The unnamed worker was cutting grass on common land near Sandown on the Isle of Wight yesterday when he drove over a verge, causing the heavy four-wheeled vehicle to tip.
Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service were called at 11.20am to assist the man stuck under the sit-on mower. Firefighters then had to use a winch to haul the heavy green mower off him.
Isle of Wight Council have launched an investigation, adding they could not provide further information at this stage.

The unnamed worker was cutting grass on common land near Sandown on 24 October when he drove over a verge and tipped the vehicle
A Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance spokesperson said: ‘The air ambulance was dispatched to an incident in Sandown at 11.27am on Tuesday 24 October.
‘The Critical Care Team of two doctors and a specialist paramedic provided medical treatment to a patient who was later conveyed by road to hospital.’
An Isle of Wight Council spokesperson said: ‘A member of staff employed by a contractor, working for the local authority was involved in an incident and attended by the emergency services.

The incident is being investigated by the Isle of Wight Council
‘We can confirm the colleague was injured.
‘This incident is under investigation and we are unable to comment any further at this stage.
‘Our thoughts are with our injured colleague, and we send thanks to the Emergency Services for their quick response.’
