CALIFORNIA TELLS 7M 'SHELTER' AT HOME
Seven million people in northern California have been ordered to “shelter in place” in the most drastic lockdown put in place in the US so far.
San Francisco and six other neighbouring counties were put on a three-week lockdown at midnight on Monday – banning residents from leaving home except for “essential needs”.
The order is in place until April 7 and breaking it could land residents with a fine or jail time.
Essential workers are still able to go to work and public transport is continuing.
People are allowed out to buy food and seek medical care.
They are also allowed out to exercise or walk dogs, must be alone or with close family and stay six feet apart.
LOCKDOWN MEASURES 'SHOULD REDUCE PEAK BY 50%'
Sir Patrick Vallance has said as well as reducing the overall death toll, lockdown measures announced yesterday will help reduce the peak of the outbreak by around 50 per cent.
The Government's chief scientific adviser added that this will help stop the NHS becoming overwhelmed at the height of the crisis.

All of the companies have confirmed customers may experience problems making and receiving calls.
BT, EE, Tesco Mobile, and Virgin Media also appear to be impacted, according to monitoring website Down Detector.
