THREE cops have been slashed and stabbed with scenes of the savage attack being compared to a horror film
Police descended on a street in Billingham, County Durham, at around 10.15pm on Friday evening following a concern for welfare report.
However, while they were at the scene they encountered a man with a knife who became “aggressive”.
One officer was slashed and two others were stabbed.
They were taken to hospital, where they received stitches.
A 34-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

He was taken to hospital with minor injuries and remains in police custody.
Witnesses say they saw “20 to 30 police cars” on Corfe Crescent at around 12.45am, with man calling the scene “chaos”.
One said: "I’ve never seen nowt like it in my life. It looked like a film".
On Saturday morning a police van was seen parked outside a bungalow on the street.

Just after the van left, a crime scene investigation team arrived, with officers seen entering a property with a camera.
Residents said they were shocked after being waking to the sound of sirens and flashing lights and seeing cops “everywhere”.
One resident who has lived on the road for 20 years, David Cooper, said he had been “gobsmacked” by the incident at first and described how there were so many police vehicles that drivers “couldn’t get a car down”.
David, 68, told Teesside Live: "We were laid in bed. Now and again you have blue lights… then another… and another. Our wife got up and looked out the front and couldn’t see for the blue lights."
He added: "Then the ambulance came and then the dogs came, but I don’t think they got out. From first seeing the lights to it being clear, it was about 40 minutes.
A 75-year-old resident who has lived on the street for 40 years, said the area was “spot on” and it was a shock to see so many police vehicles because it was only “once in a blue moon” that anything happened.
He told the outlet: "A neighbour told me it started at 8.45pm. It woke me up at about 12.45am – the blue lights were flashing in my room. I looked out the window and there were about 20/30 police cars – I counted 17. I would’ve said 30 officers or more.
“There were two ambulances here too but I don’t know if anyone got in the first. It’s spot on here. Everyone knows everyone."
A 35-year-old man, who lives with his wife and two kids, said he and his family were woken by the sirens at around 12.40am.
He said: "We looked out and there were just police everywhere. It was chaos. All of a sudden loads of people were coming out into the street- someone looks like they got arrested."
A North East Ambulance Service spokesperson said: "We were called to an incident at a private address in the Billingham area at 12.30am this morning.
"We dispatched the Medicar, a clinical team leader and two ambulance crews, and four people were taken to hospital for further treatment."
A Cleveland Police spokesperson said: "Police attended an address on Corfe Crescent, Billingham, at around 10.15pm on Friday 2nd June following a concern for welfare report.
"While attending the incident, officers encountered a man with a knife who became aggressive towards officers.
"Two Cleveland Police officers received puncture wounds while a third officer received slash wounds.
"All three were taken to hospital where they received stitches.
"A 34-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and was taken to hospital for minor injuries. He is now in police custody."
