Cop seriously hurt when her horse bolted during protest has spoken of her pride in ‘unbreakable’ thin blue line – The Sun

THE MOUNTED police officer seriously injured when her horse bolted, spoke yesterday of her pride in the ‘’unbreakable’’ thin blue line – and revealed her horse is ok.

Brave Wpc Nicky Vernon said she was ‘’just about hanging in there’’ following her fall – but urged colleagues to keep holding the line until she is back to work.

The cop also posted photos of her horse ‘Rocky the Rockstar’ enjoying himself in a field after his traumatic experience last weekend.

He reared up and bolted when thugs hurled missiles at mounted cops after a Black Lives Matter protest last Saturday evening in Westminster, Central London.

Mum-of-one Nicky was knocked backwards off Rocky when she collided with a traffic light on Whitehall.

She suffered a punctured lung and fractured collar bone and ribs in the fall and was rescued by colleagues from the Met’s Tactical Support Group as a baying mob surrounded her.

Meanwhile, Rocky galloped away from the violence and made his way to his nearby stables at Great Scotland Yard.

Initially, it was feared that Nicky’s life was in peril and her husband James – also a mounted Met officer – was alerted.

'HANGING IN THERE'

She was taken to St Mary’s Hospital, Paddington, where she is recovering, although her family have been unable to visit because of the coronavirus risk.

Nicky said she and Rocky have been inundated with messages from well-wishers.

She wrote on her Facebook page yesterday: ‘’I’ve had a few enquiries as to how we are.

‘’As you can see PH(Police Horse) Rocky the Rockstar is doing just great and is getting some well deserved downtime.

‘’I’m just about hanging in there with the outpouring of love and support from my family, friends and even strangers keeping me going.’’

She went on: ‘’It’s humbling to receive such support and a constant reminder of the strength of that blue line.

‘’For some reason it’s referred to as ‘thin’ but it seems it’s made from something stronger than you can imagine.

‘’Just unbreakable. Hold it for me until I get back.’’

She signed off the message with three blue hearts, saying : ‘’Thank you everyone‘’

A JustGiving page set up to raise a few hundred pounds for the officer has now reached £12,000.

It is understood the funds raised will go to a police charity.
