A woman has cheated death after being knocked in front of an oncoming subway by a commuter who fainted in Buenos Aires.

Other commuters were filmed frantically waving their arms to try to get the train to brake in time as the man who fainted staggered to his feet.

The drama occurred around 11am local time on Tuesday morning at Pueyrredon Metro Station on Line D.

Good Samaritans stepped onto the track and helped the woman to safety after the driver stopped in time, just inches from where she was laying motionless on the track.

She was subsequently seen being assisted by police and medical responders.
