Camilla slams 'ridiculous' dairy-free celeb diets that leave girls at risk of brittle bones

She fears the trend to cut out dairy could see a future spike in women ravaged by osteoporosis, which killed her mum and gran.

The Duchess of Cornwall highlighted the importance of a calcium-rich diet. She said: “It is this ridiculous dieting, cutting out dairy and all the things that are good for you bones.

“These girls see ‘Skinny Lizzies’ in a magazine and they all want to be thin. It’s about social media too.

“We need to find a way of educating children that they need to take care of their bodies now, instead of aspiring to look like someone they see in a picture, if they want to protect themselves in old age.”

Camilla, 71, did not name any sites in an interview with the Daily Mail. But last year Instagram was slammed by mental health charities for failing to block posts that glamorised eating disorders.

Camilla spoke out at London’s Science Museum yesterday after the official launch of the Royal Osteoporosis Society, previously known as the National Osteoporosis Society.

She told delegates her mum Rosalind Shand died at “exactly the same age as I am now” in 1994.

She added she wished she could show her the progress that had been made in terms of research and treatment.
