Bus drivers BANNED from wearing Christmas jumpers in case it upsets special needs kids – The Sun

A BUS driver has been told not to wear Christmas jumpers at work- because they could "upset special needs kids".

Mike Osborn says all drivers at Pete's Airlink, Portsmouth, have been banned from wearing festive knits amid concerns the designs could frighten some children.

But the 68-year-old says the clampdown is "like something Scrooge would do" and has launched a campaign to bring back Yuletide pullovers back.

He told Portsmouth's The News: "It's almost like Fawlty Towers – it's ridiculous."

Mike said he has been given a replacement short sleeve grey shirt to wear after his boss Peter Bryden enforced the jumper ban.

Peter said he didn’t want to spoil the driver’s fun but the rules were there for a reason.

He explained: "One of the biggest concerns is around having Christmas decorations on our minibuses. If anything obscuring your view, an inspector can pull up our drivers for this and fine them.

"We also transport a number of children with special needs that we need to be considerate of. We don’t want to do anything that might upset them."

Mike added: "I will stick by Peter’s rules though. I don’t want to lose my job. I have lost so many jobs in the past and I really love this one.

"But I still think the Christmas jumper ban is so stupid and daft. It’s hilarious."
