Bungling ‘arsonist’ armed with a Molotov cocktail is filmed missing his intended target and setting parked cars on fire before running away

This is the moment a bungling criminal tries to throw a homemade bomb at a building but misses and explodes over a parked car instead.

Late night CCTV footage shows the masked man lighting a Molotov cocktail on an empty street in what appears to be a targeted attack.

The incident happened in the town of Kedzierzyn-Kozle in southern Poland.

 In the video, a man can be seen standing on the side of a darkened street, his face covered in a balaclava.

He then lights a Molotov cocktail, a glass bottle containing petrol or alcohol, and takes aim at a building on the other side of the road.

After taking a few steps forward he throws the incendiary device high into the air towards the intended target.

Stopping to take aim, the masked man looks up at the house and steps into the road with his flaming bottle of what is believed to be either petrol or a high volume alcohol. The weapon’s named was coined during the Second World War

He launches the Molotov cocktail over his right shoulder towards the building, as the small rag hanging out the top of the bottle sets alight

However, the man gives the weapon too much upward force, and after a short trip into the sky the bottle hurtles back down to the ground, and knocks outwards from the building towards a line of parked cars

Miss and a hit: The criminal looks surprised to have missed the house, and instead has to stare at the cocktail burst into flames on a BMW car before he flees the scene

However, he appears not give the weapon a good enough aim, and the lit bottle misses his target and lands on a white BMW 1 series. 

Police said that they have arrested a 29-year-old man, who has not been named. He is expected to be charged with destroying property

According to local media, it hit the building but bounced back.

The bottle explodes in a burst of flames as it hits the car bonnet, and the fire spreads across two other cars.

The criminal, not particularly happy with the result, sprints away as the car sets on fire.

Police were called and a suspect was quickly identified using the footage and statements from witnesses.

A 29-year-old man, who has not been named, was arrested and is believed to have been charged with destroying property and causing an event which endangers the life or health of many people or property of great size.

He faces up to 10 years in prison if found guilty. No motive has been provided for the crime but reports state the building – a house – was the intended target.
