British Airways flight from Gatwick to Malaga lands at Barcelona ‘after fumes were detected in the cabin’

A British Airways flight from Gatwick to Malaga diverted to Barcelona tonight after ‘fumes were detected in the cabin.’
Furious passengers took to social media to tear into BA for an apparent lack of information when they landed hundreds of miles from the south of Spain.
‘BA2716 diverted to Barcelona and not a single BA representative to assist. We wander the terminal on our own initiative. Just. Wow,’ Alicia Botha tweeted on Thursday night.
Another passenger claimed that it was emergency stop related to fumes issuing from the engine.
Flight data from Flight Radar showed the Airbus A320 left Gatwick at around 4pm before it was diverted to Barcelona 2.55pm, nearly 500 miles away.
