Boy, 6, covered in 'tons of blood' as five people shot at J’Ouvert celebration in New York City

A BOY, 6, was left covered in "tons of blood" as five people were shot at a J’Ouvert celebration in New York City in the early hours of Monday morning.

The West Indian Day parade was supposed to be held virtually this year amid the coronavirus pandemic – but hundreds of people still gathered in the streets.

NYPD Chief of Department Terence Monahan tweeted that five people were shot in Brooklyn on Monday.

Graphic video obtained by the New York Post showed the moment gunfire erupted on the corner of Nostrand Avenue and Crown Street in the NYC neighborhood of Crown Heights.

A boy was seen lying on the ground in a puddle of blood, as people screamed.

Cops and bystanders gathered around the boy.

Joshua Kristal, who was marching with the procession, told the New York Post the boy's mother was carrying him.

"You could see there was blood in his pants," Kristal said. “She dropped him, I didn’t know what to do, then I saw tons of blood.”

Police said the boy was struck in the leg.

A 47-year-old woman and 40-year-old man were shot in the left foot, while two men, ages 45 and 34, were both struck in the right leg, police told the Post.

The woman was confirmed to be the boy's mother, ABC affiliate WABC-TV reported.

All five victims were taken to the hospital.

Their injuries are non-life-threatening, police told the New York Post.

Kristal said "everyone was in shock" at the incident.

Two men were arrested, and cops confiscated two guns following what happened, Monahan said.

"The investigation is in its early stages and is ongoing," Monahan said.

Police have asked anyone with information on the incident to contact cops at 800-577-TIPS.

Despite the official J'Ouvert parade being canceled, around 300 people gathered around 2.30am to march on Monday, WABC-TV reported.
