Boxing Day sale 2019 kicks off at Currys, Argos and Boots as part of ‘Cyber Christmas Day’ – The Sun

BRITS will splurge an eye-watering £1.4BILLION on so-called Cyber Christmas Day with some sales having launched today.

A staggering 11 million festive shoppers take to the internet over Christmas to fork out for gifts including clothes, laptops and phones.

Some high street shops even launched their sales two days early, slashing up to 88 per cent off goods.

Debenhams, Currys PC World and House of Fraser are just some of the big-name brands that have huge discounts early this year.

One in four adults will spend today, in a landmark December 25 blowout 10 times bigger than 10 years ago.

A £1.19bn web spree will be up almost 20 per cent on last year's £1.00bn, said a Centre for Retail Research study, reports the Mail.

The online spend works out at £1.24m-a-minute over the 16 hours most are awake on Christmas Day. In 2009, just £120m was spent on December 25.

Big surges in transactions are forecast at 10am after cash presents and gift vouchers are opened, and at 5pm before families settle down for an evening of TV.

BOXING DAY BOOM

Boohoo and Very have also started knocking down the price of their products in a bid to entice last-minute shoppers.

It comes as The Sun revealed 16million Brits are set to blow £1.6million on the biggest Christmas Eve shopping day ever.

Among the best deals already here is a Sony 55-inch Smart 4K Ultra HD TV at Currys PC World, which has £500 knocked off the price.

But the biggest savings we've spotted so far come from Boohoo, which has reduced the price of some of its clothes by 88 per cent.

It can be tempting to get caught up in the sales, but we recommend preparing your shop in advance to avoid impulse buys and unnecessary spends.

Shopping around is also crucial to make sure you’re paying the best price.

SUPER SALES

If you're wondering how to compare prices, PriceSpy logs the history of how much something costs.

It uses data from over 3,000 different retailers, including Argos, Amazon, eBay and the supermarkets.

Boxing Day sales can often be unpredictable so we can't be sure if these prices will go up or down.

Professor Joshua Bamfield, director of the Centre for Retail Research, said: "Websites are stealing a march over shops by starting sales online, with shoppers buying on Christmas Day to make sure they get the best price.

"This will be the highest-spending Christmas Day on record, and the first year that over £1billion has been spent on December 25.

"It also looks like the biggest mobile phone shopping day ever, with a large proportion of spending via phones. Christmas Day is a big deal for online retail."
