BBC News baffles viewers by playing YESTERDAY'S weather report on today's bulletin

Brits trying to brace themselves for another day of bitter cold weather blasted the broadcaster as unhelpful for making them relieve "Groundhog Day".

Journalist Alina Jenkins launched the bulletin telling viewers: "Hello, there's more snow to come in this forecast as we head into Friday.

"An area of low pressure stays close by as we go into Friday.

"Whilst the earlier amber warning from the Met Office has expired we still have weather warnings in place so slipper slopes, tricky travelling conditions stay up to date.

Well done @bbcweather and @BBCNews for inventing a time machine. Now can we have today's forecast!?

"By Friday morning we likely to see 10 to 15cm of snow… and we start to see further sleet and snow showers piling in to northern England."

But dozens took to social media to question whether they had "slept for a week".

One said: "@bbcweather thanks for letting me know what the weather forecast was YESTERDAY on your news bulletin just before 6am… helpful… then a summary about today saying it's going to be cold."

Another added: "ONLY THE BBC COULD BE GIVING YESTERDAYS WEATHER TODAY , SOMEONE SHOULD TELL THE PRESENTER ITS SATURDAY NOT FRIDAY."

On a slightly calmer note, a tweeter said: "Thank you for just giving me a forecast for Friday. Have I slept for a week? Correction and apology please."

WHAT IS TODAY'S WEATHER FORECAST?

The Met Office has issued yellow weather warnings for snow and ice today as a staggering -16C chill is forecast tonight.

The coldest spots should be in snow covered areas of eastern Scotland tonight where -16C is possible.

But even in the south of England, forecasters warn that the mercury could fall all the way to -10C in central areas.

Meteorologist Alex Burkill said: "Over Saturday we'll see some snow showers around the far north, the far west and the far east of the UK.

"Elsewhere it's a cold day again and feeling especially cold in the south where it will be breezy, but for most it will be dry and sunny."

He continued: "[Tonight] it's likely to be very similar to Thursday night — we could get down to -16C in Scotland, but it's worth bearing in mind that even across the south we could get into negative double figures."

The Met Office's weather warnings say to expect injuries from slips and falls on the ice on roads and cycle paths.
