Who are the Muppets characters? Kermit, Miss Piggy, Beaker, Gonzo, Fozzie, Animal and the gang are back
Here's the lowdown on this iconic characters…
Kermit the Frog
Arguably the most famous of Jim Henson's creations. According to his bio, he was born in Leland Mississippi and has approximately 2,353 siblings.
He then told Ellen in a 2011 interview that he was born in the Louisiana swamps.
Kermit is kind and loyal but often finds himself in bizarre situations.
He's been in a longtime on-off romance with fellow Muppet Miss Piggy.
Miss Piggy
According to her bio, she grew up in a small town in Iowa and had to enter beauty contests to survive.
Miss Piggy is convinced she's destined for stardom and nothing stands in her way.
She's known for her fiery personality and when she isn't smothering love interest Kermit with kisses, she's karate chopping him into a wall.
Fozzie Bear
Fozzie is Kermit's best friend and he's the first Muppet Kermit met on his journey.
He often wears a brown pork pie hat and a polka dot necktie.
Gonzo
Unlike some of the Muppets, Gonzo is not a puppet version of a person or an animal and a running gag is that no one is sure what he is meant to be.
He has a long-standing relationship with Camilla the Chicken.
Rowlf the Dog
Rowlf debuted on the Muppets in 1984 playing a toy piano.
Muppets creator Jim Henson's son Brian once revealed: "Kermit was my father's best known character, but a lot of people think he was more like Rowlf in real life except he couldn't play the piano as well."
Scooter
He's known for being the backstage manager and stage crew member on the show.
He revealed his mother was a parrot but that he didn't know much about his father.
Scooter looks similar to a gopher, which may be a pun on his job as a "gofer".
Pepe the King Prawn
He has become one of the most popular Muppet characters.
He is Spanish and his full name is Pepino Rodrigo Serrano Gonzales.
Pepe is known for his fiery temper and thinks of himself as a lothario.
Rizzo the Rat
He's a streetwise and sarcastic rat who boasts a New Jersey accent.
He's also a self-proclaime acrophobe.
He once told Gonzo that he has 1,274 brothers and sisters and comes from a family that traditionally made pizzas.
Animal
He's the wild drummer of Dr Teeth and the Electric Mayhem.
It's a popular legend that he's based on Keith Moon – the crazy drummer of The Who.
Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac is also sometimes cited as the inspiration for Animal.
Walter
He made his first appearance in the 2011 Muppets film.
He's been a fan of The Muppet Show and often refers to himself as the "world’s biggest Muppets fan".
Beaker
He's the long-suffering assistant of Dr. Bunsen Honeydew.
Beaker is a magnet for disaster and often causes things to blow up.
