Virgin River’s Charmaine has different fate on show than in the books
Virgin River: Season 5 Part 1 trailer
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from the Virgin River novels by Robyn Carr
Netflix will be dropping Virgin River season five, part one on September 7.
The new series has been split in half to keep fans on tenterhooks with the romantic drama promising some more big revelations.
One of the big plot points is about Charmaine Roberts (played by Lauren Hammersley), who is expecting twins.
Does Charmaine lose the twins in Virgin River?
Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson) and Charmaine ended their romance not long after Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge) arrived in town.
Charmaine was less than impressed with Jack and Mel’s blossoming romance, later revealing she was pregnant with twins and the bar owner was the father.

However, there were more revelations in season four of Virgin River after Jack and Mel found Charmaine in pain.
She told the couple: “This is karma. I’m being punished. It’s because I lied. The twins. They’re not your babies.”
Charmaine was having a medical emergency with fans left on a huge cliffhanger about what would happen to her and the children.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Virgin River’s new showrunner Patrick Sean Smith opened up about Charmaine’s major bombshell at the end of season four.

Smith said: “In season five, it’s such a great mystery. That’s what was so interesting when I watched it, and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I can’t believe it.’
“And I was like, ‘Well, what do I do with that? What’s the best way to use that big twist?’ But then also do what the show does so well, which is carry mysteries for multiple seasons and questions and keep the audience guessing.
“So, I can’t say it will be in five, and I can’t say it won’t. But it’s definitely something that I would rather hold off on and not waste. Because it’s that good.”
His words suggest there may or may not be a resolution to either the paternity of Charmaine’s babies or whether both the infants and indeed their mother are safe.

Sadly, Charmaine is a relatively minor character in the Virgin River novels by Robyn Carr and swiftly leaves town after Jack breaks up with her.
The books don’t shed much more light on Charmaine with her pregnancy storyline being something created by the Netflix show’s writers.
As Charmaine technically never fell pregnant in the books, she never lost her twin babies.
However, the show could take a very different direction given Charmaine’s elevated role.
Although fans will have to wait and see, there was foreshadowing in season four of Virgin River when Mel helped to deliver twins after a couple unexpectedly showed up at the clinic.
The couple lost one of the twins but the second baby managed to survive with Mel trying to hide her distress as the moment reminded her of her own tragic stillbirth.
Hopefully, this scene wasn’t related to Charmaine’s own pregnancy and the writers may well have been adding in a red herring for viewers to have at the back of their minds.
