Timmy Mallett eyes comeback on Strictly claiming he’s ‘utterly brilliant’ dancer

Timmy Mallett wants to make a television comeback on Strictly.

The 80s star – famous for his “Utterly brilliant!” catchphrase – is upset he’s never been asked to take part.

He said: “I haven’t been asked to do it, but I am a fantastic dancer. I have some fabulous moves.

“Mrs Mallett laughs at me, but I’m proud of what I can do on the dancefloor.” Strictly bosses are currently on the hunt for celebs to take part in this year’s series.

Names already rumoured include singer Jane McDonald and footie pundit Mark Lawrenson.

But pro dancers Kevin Clifton and AJ Pritchard have both announced they won’t be returning.

Timmy Mallett once enjoyed international fame as a children’s broadcaster.

He also sang on the No.1 cover of Itsy Witsy Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini in 1990, which earned Andre Lloyd Webber his first ever No1 as a record producer.

As revealed in his biography,Timmy claims to come from a long line of Mallets, including William Mallet, one of the barons who forced King John to sing the Magna Carta.

From radio, Mallett moved on to the Saturday-morning children’s TV show Wide Awake Club featuring daft contests such as Singing In The Shower, which, along with its summer holiday spin-off Wacaday, made him famous.

Prince William and Prince Harry were among countless young fans, watching Wacaday with Princess Diana, as did a schoolboy Keith Lemon, of future Celebrity Juice notoriety, who won a competition to design underpants for Mallett.
