This Morning’s Alison Hammond concerned as Dermot O’Leary reveals painful health issue
This Morning presenter Dermot O'Leary, 50, has revealed that he's secretly been dealing with a common health issue that can cause sufferers a lot of pain.
Dermot hosted today's episode of the daytime entertainment show with his presenting partner Alison Hammond, 48, and shared that he has been battling back pain.
He made the revelation as the ITV programme aired a segment all about the common health complaint, with expert Dr Nadia offering viewers tips and tricks to best reduce their pain.
Alison was surprised to find out that Dermot has been dealing with the issue behind closed doors and offered him a sympathetic back rub.
As they introduced the segment, Alison said, "Now it's the most common form of chronic pain in the UK. Backache affects more than six million people every single year."
Dermot then raised his hand and announced that he too has been struggling with back pain.
A surprised Alison then responded: "I didn't know you were struggling with it," before offering her support.
Luckily for Dermot, help was on hand as Dr Nadia urged him to come to her clinic so she could help solve his issue.
Dermot then shared with viewers that he had been seeking help from a physiotherapist and had been working with the professional to strengthen his back, as well as stretching it.
Dr Nadia agreed that the treatment plan sounded beneficial, urging viewers suffering from the ailment to also ensure they stretch and strengthen their backs.
And it's not the first time Dermot has opted to get candid about his health. In 2019, he opened up about his mental health, revealing that he tries to embrace his 'blue days'.
Keeping a positive outlook, the presenter said: "I'm kind of lucky if I'm honest with you. I've always had a good structure around me, and I've always been a cup-half-full sort of person.
"Everyone gets blue, and I embrace it sometimes. It's not bad to have blue days."
"We all have our ups and downs in life. But for the most part, I'm unwaveringly a happy, cheery person. I think a lot, but I've always been an optimist.
"It's just something I feel very blessed with, and I'm lucky it hasn't affected me."
Dermot and Alison have worked together for some time now and are known for taking on the Friday morning slot.
Alison recently laughed off speculation that the pair have a strained relationship and have not been getting along.
As the Big Brother star shared some Instagram clips of the duo having a laugh as they enjoy dancing on air, one person mocked the rumours that they don't get along.
The fan wrote: "Wow, the tension between you two is palpable," and Alison replied with a laughing emoji.
