Reed Domingo used to rob banks on his lunch break in a desperate bid to solve his financial woes. The ex-criminal appeared on Monday’s instalment of This Morning to share his story with hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, but viewers felt it was “disgusting” for ITV to give him “airtime”.

In 2000, Reed was living in San Diego with his American wife, Patrice, and their daughter, Angelique who had been conceived following five years of nine rounds of IVF treatment, costing more than £200,000.

Following her birth, the family’s debts continued to grow, prompting Reed to steal more than £50,000 in lunch-break bank robberies.

After spending four years in prison in the US, Reed was deported to the UK.

Reed told Holly and Phillip his wife lost one fallopian tube through having an ectopic pregnancy and she had the other tube cut later down the line.

“We had to cover all of the costs, both the medical procedures and the medication,” he added.

“At the time, when we first started this project, we both had good jobs.”

“We had the means to fund it ourselves to start off with,” he insisted.

However, he turned to crime after claiming one round of IVF cost $15,000 dollars in 1992 and after nine rounds he was in a considerable amount of debt.

Explaining how he robbed banks, he said: “I was working for a bank and even though I wasn’t customer-facing I went through training about what would happen in the event of a bank robbery.

“It was based on that training in conjunction with that pressure which is when I thought I found a solution.”

He later admitted he used to schedule bank robberies during his lunchtime and viewers were left appalled.

Many took to Twitter to share their fury at ITV giving Reed air time to discuss stealing money.

Peter Atkinson fumed: “Get him off. Criminal trying to cash in on his criminal past. Disgusting having him on the programme. #ThisMorning.”

Meanwhile, Peter suggested: “#Thismorning No doubt he wants this hideous story turned into a film.”
