Turns out, Gypsy Rose Blanchard and Nicholas Godejohn were not the modern-day Bonnie and Clyde. In the finale of Hulu’s The Act, Gypsy (Joey King) makes the tough decision to sever her case from her (now ex) lover in order to receive a better plea deal and avoid the death penalty. Nick (Callum Worthy) is visibly thrown by this decision, frantically repeating that he “did it for her.”
As we know, Gypsy is halfway through her 10-year sentence for the murder of Dee Dee Blanchard, while Nick is still in prison, where he will remain for the rest of his life. Gypsy is engaged and ready to get on with her life. Callum told Cosmo that Nick was “destroyed” by Gypsy’s decision to place most of the blame for her mother’s death. “He really believed he was doing the right thing and that he was…he was helping her and is confused as to why his sentence would be different than hers,” Callum says.
But what does the real Nick Godejohn think? Well, it sounds like Callum was right. In 2018, Nick told Godejohn told 20/20 that he felt “betrayed.” “I loved Gypsy to the point where I would do anything for her. I’ve proven that with what I did,” he says. “Unfortunately, because of how far I went, I feel as if she’s betrayed me. I feel that she’s abandoned me.”
But that didn’t stop Godejohn from reaching out to Gypsy while in prison. A representative of the Blanchard family told InTouch that Nick sent Gyspy a letter. “She just threw it away,” Fancy Macelli says. “I don’t think they’re supposed to communicate, but she just has no interest in that part of her life.”
In that same 20/20 interview, Nick admits to still feeling love for Gypsy. “I truly believed that she was, like, my soulmate,” Godejohn says. “There is a part of me that will probably always love her, but she’s hurt me so badly. I guess you could say my feelings got the best of me. I ended up loving someone way too much.”
