There are only a handful of celebrities who are yet to have their identities rumbled on The Masked Singer. Two contestants were voted off the ITV show on Saturday night, with actress Jaime Winstone being revealed as Firework and former England footballer Michael Owen getting unmasked as Doughnuts. Mushroom avoided being exposed but viewers are now convinced the character could be Countryfile and Autumnwatch star Liz Bonnin.

The Masked Singer fans took to social media to share thoughts on Mushroom after the person behind the outfit belted out Demi Lovato’s Stone Cold and dazzled the judging panel.

Following the performance, many viewers thought wildlife and natural history presenter Liz was masquerading as Mushroom after adding up clues dropped on the show.

The 45-year-old presenter also appeared on the latest instalment of Sunday Brunch and fans believed she let slip she could be the singing fungi.

Liz told hosts Simmon Rimmer and Tim Lovejoy she started her career as a backing singer in an Irish pop band named The Pale.

The star, who had forgotten the name of the group’s debut album, said: “Their best single was called I Am A Butterfly.”

A confused Tim added: “When you say ‘their’ weren’t you in it?”

Liz quipped: “Well I was in but I was a backing vocalist, I wasn’t really in the band per se. Can I get half a point for that?”

One Reddit user wrote: “I can’t remember many of the clues, but Liz Bonnin is on Sunday brunch and said she was a backing singer for a band.

“She also presented Autumnwatch and Springwatch, and Countryfile.

“Probably a dud but don’t recall anyone saying her, but [it’s] a good shout for Mushroom.”

Lady Carrie tweeted: “I think Mushroom is Liz Bonnin from Springwatch.”

Mark Lewis added: “Mushroom I think is Liz Bonnin.”

However, The Masked Singer’s Jaime Winstone, who was voted off as Firework,  believes Mushroom is a 1980s star.

Appearing on Monday’s instalment of This Morning, Jaime told hosts Phillip Schofield and Rochelle Humes: “I think [Mushroom] is Lisa Stansfield.”

The actress couldn’t be certain and added: “I just don’t know, there are so many options and ways you can go with this.”

Phillip went on to ask Jaime: “Did you bump into any of the other characters at all?”

Jaime, who is the daughter of acting legend Ray Winstone, explained: “Now I can say, and honestly, you don’t know who any of the characters are, I wouldn’t be able to keep that sort of secret.”

Could Jaime be on to something or have the viewers managed to rumble Mushroom’s identity?

The Masked Singer continues on Saturday at 7pm on ITV.
