Kate’s (played by Jill Halfpenny) dream holiday soon takes a turn for the worst when she finds out her husband is not the man she thought she married. Debuting on Tuesday, March 1, the four-part drama concludes on Friday, leaving Channel 5 viewers little time to flesh out their theories and look for clues.

So far, viewers have been introduced to a group of friends who are holidaying together in the Mediterranean.

Based on the best-selling book, The Holiday by T.M. Logan, Kate’s world is turned upside down when she discovers that one of the friends she is on vacation with is having an affair with her husband.

The rest of her time spent in Malta is tense as she tries to uncover the truth.

Much like Kate, fans of the show are struggling to solve the mystery, and with a key text message being sent in Tuesday’s episode being unreadable, some have given up.

Spotting a message on her husband Sean’s (played by Owen McDonnell) phone that tipped off Kate to his affair, viewers struggled to read the small text before the scene ended.

Many onlookers missed the massive plot point and asked the show’s producers to increase the font.

Reaching for their phones to voice their confusion, fans soon united online with the same issue.

Elaine Burgoyne tweeted: “Note to producer…we can’t read the texts #TheHoliday.”

Mary Peevers felt Elaine’s pain: “Watching #Theholiday on Channel5; note to Directors, if your character is reading texts on a phone, please do close-up of the phone; otherwise the words are too small to read from my armchair.”

Comedic memes were used to accompany a lot of tweets, such as Victoria Schlesinger’s post, which was supported by a funny visual of Heidi Klum pretending to use binoculars as she said: “What have I missed, can’t read the texts #TheHoliday.”

Sarah Milton considered having to buy a new screen: “Going to have to either get a bigger TV or my eyes tested, can’t read those phone messages! Might also need a hearing aid! #TheHoliday”

Eagle-eye @BooPookies managed to read the message adding: “If you find texts on your husband’s phone alluding to an affair, would you not beat him over the head with said phone or at least confront him about it? Why is she smiling through gritted teeth at him #TheHoliday.”

Although the show wasn’t very everyone, it appeared that the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special winner Halfpenny and Killing Eve star McDonnell managed to keep many viewers engaged.

Jon Dough tweeted his support for the show: “#TheHoliday nice easy viewing, not hard on the brain, can’t fault the acting, haven’t read the book so can’t comment then again it wouldn’t be a book Id have chosen to read anyway… at least its on consecutive days, its just another soft drama, which is fine by me…” (sic)

Joining Kate, Sean and their two children, Lucy (Lara McDonnell) and Daniel (Aidan McCann), on the trip are Kate’s old University friends.

These friends are also key suspects in the affair; could it be Rowan (Siobhan Hewlett) or Jenny (Liv Mjönes)?

Her friends also invited their cool friend Izzy (Cat Simmons) along, and she can’t be ruled out as the possible culprit.

In the next instalment of the four-part drama, Kate is told to tread carefully when she opens up to Izzy about her husband’s affair.

Will Kate find out which friend is having the affair? And will she confront the pair?

The Holiday continues on Channel 5 on Wednesday at 9pm.
