The Green Planet viewers 'in tears' as David Attenborough issues bleak warning in series finale

THE Green Planet viewers were left "in tears" last night as Sir David Attenborough issued a bleak warning about plants.
The natural historian was seen addressing the audience at home in the final instalment of his five-part series looking at how plants survive.
In the final episode, David, 95, was seen investigating the ways in which some plants have adapted to the changing climate across the globe.
He also met with those helping flowers and fauna survive the changing temperatures, as well as fight off disease and avoid extinction.
However, the broadcaster took the time to frequently remind viewers throughout the hour-long episode of the need for action to save a number of plants.
Fans were left in "tears" at the stark warnings issued by David, who was seen at the end of the episode standing in the forest.
Giving a stark warning to fans of the show, he explained at one point: "Two out of five plants are now facing extinction.
"The loss of any one species is in itself a tragedy, but such a loss erodes the stability of a whole ecosystem, and that should be of great concern for all of us."
David later added: "We have, for centuries, robbed wild plants of the space and time they need to thrive. That has not been to their benefit, nor ultimately to ours.
"Our relationship with plants has changed throughout history, and now it must change again.
"Whether it's what we eat and cultivate, or whether it is what we like, we must now work with plants and make the world a little greener, a little wilder."

"If we do this, our future will be healthier and safer – and in my experience at any rate, happier. Plants are our most ancient allies, together we can make this an even greener planet."
Fans immediately flooded Twitter to admit they had been left emotional by the scenes, as they encouraged others to take climate change "seriously".
"Green Planet made me very tearful tonight," one fan wrote. "Sobering stories about plants at risk of extinction, and hopeful stories of the people doing all they can, often ingeniously, to save and protect them."
"Have I gotten teary at every episode of Green Planet? Yes," a second chimed in, as a third wrote: "Never thought I'd cry over a plant, but here we are."
"Green Planet makes me cry, but also makes me want to save my useless tears to water more plants," a fourth joked.
"That sign off from Sir David at the end had me fully crying," another concluded.
The Green Planet is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
