The Good Doctor season 3: Was Shaun too harsh on Lea in Heartbreak? Fans left divided
In the past few episodes, Dr Shaun Murphy (played by Freddie Highmore) has gone through a lot personally. From breaking up with his girlfriend Carly Lever (Jasika Nicole), confessing his love for friend Lea Dilallo (Paige Spara) to then be rejected by her because he is autistic. After going from never having any romantic connections in his life, all of this has come at once in a very short space of time in the ABC medical drama. And going by the latest episode of The Good Doctor, it has all got a bit too much for him.
In The Good Doctor’s Unsaid episode, Shaun and then-girlfriend Carly went on a spontaneous double date with Lea and someone she was seeing to a karaoke bar.
However, by the end of the night, Carly realised he actually had feelings for Lea so she decided to break up with him and told the young doctor to let Lea know how he feels.
Listening to her advice, Shaun admitted how he felt and Lea said she felt the same.
But in a harsh blow to the doctor, she said they shouldn’t be together because it wouldn’t work.
When he asked if it was because he is autistic, she didn’t say anything and walked away.
But when he continually tried to pursue her, she bluntly stated it was due to him being autistic and that was never going to change.
Hurt by what she had said, Shaun struggled to deal with how to react to being rejected because of his condition.

He didn’t know what to do so ended up outside Lea’s house ready to smash her car windows with a baseball bat, but thankfully she showed up and stopped him before he was able to.
In an emotional plea, he then told a teary-eyed Lea: “I want to hurt you the way you hurt me.
”You acted like you cared about me, but you don’t even respect me.
“You’re flaky, and you can’t keep a boyfriend. And you can’t keep a job. And no one likes you.
“And you’re going to end up alone and you deserve it, because you’re a superficial, selfish, and prejudiced person.”
Shaun then walked away, leaving Lea to think about everything he had just told her.
Was Shaun Murphy too harsh on Lea Dilallo in The Good Doctor?
Both Shaun and Lea were clearly upset after their confrontation but fans have been left divided as to whether or not he was right to have a go at her in such a horrible manner.
One Twitter fan said: “Shaun needs to understand that not everything can go as he wants and that he’s not the only one struggling. Lea has her own problems.”
Another said: “I think Lea does care, but she has her own problems and obvious self esteem issues.
“She never set out to hurt him, but the road to heartache was built by people who never meant to hurt each other.
“That scene felt very real. Excellent acting.”

But there are those who are also in support of Shaun, thinking he had every right to express how she made him feel.
A third fan tweeted: “As much as I’ve liked Lea she needed to hear what Shaun said. I’m so glad he called her out.”
While another, acknowledging both sides of the argument, added: “Wow. Shaun’s outburst to Lea was heavy and cruel and mean…But it needed to be said.”
The episode ended with this argument so it’s unclear what is going to happen now between the two of them and if they could ever rebuild their friendship.
