The Chase star Mark Labbett has apologised after a recent defeat saw him storm off the show, with the quizzer saying he was struggling with his mental health.

Chaser Mark, who’s known as The Beast on the quiz show, lost out to a team of contestants who took home a jackpot of £21,000

However, viewers were shocked when he said: ‘Well played guys, you deserve it – I’m off,’ before storming off the set and punching the wall on the way out.

A stunned Bradley Walsh said: ‘I apologise to all the kids watching. That’s not how you should take defeat. You should take it magnanimously and humbly.’

Tweeting after the episode aired, Mark, 56, said: ‘Apologies to those of you disappointed with my behaviour tonight.

‘My mental health was shot before that game, it was storm off or break down in tears. A remorseless diet of quality opponents didn’t help #thechase.’

He was supported by fellow Chaser Paul Sinha, as well as fans of the show.

During the celebrity episode, he tweeted: ‘I don’t know what is more impressive about @carolvorders, her intellect or her more tangible assets #superstar #BeatTheChasers.’

Responding to his comment the following morning, Carol, 61, wrote ‘…you beast you’ alongside a crazy-eyed emoji.

But moments after his original post, Mark apologised.

‘So sorry @carolvorders #BeatTheChasers,’ he penned.

‘I forgive you, my Beast bud….but don’t do it again,’ Carol replied with a crying laughing face emoji.

Carol then further reassured fans that she and Mark are good pals.

Posting a link to a story on the matter, she said on Twitter: ‘Well the Beast and I are having a bit of a laugh over this as he is a good buddy of mine. We always take the mick out of each other.’
