The Challenge: War of the Worlds Trailer Teases Some Sort of Terrifying Plane Crash Challenge
The Challenge: War of the Worlds is not messing around.
For the 33rd season of the hit competition series, MTV has assembled 17 fan-favorite veteran players and 17 first-timers from around the world for a post-apocalyptic battle for $1 million.
“This is not just a battle — it’s war,” host T.J. Lavin says. Even Johnny “Bananas” Devenanzio says the season is “going to be absolutely brutal.”
Given the look of one of the challenges, he’s not kidding. It appears there will be some sort of plane crash simulation challenge that looks absolutely terrifying. And probably is, given the screams we hear in the trailer.
Of course, the season will be jammed with the typical delightful drama.
From comments like “They’re just kind of old and dated” and “I’m surrounded by crazy people,” it’s clear the prospects have no idea what they’ve gotten themselves into. And with lines like, “I’m here to make money, cause problems, and break up relationships,” it’s clear Johnny Bananas is still Johnny Bananas.
The rookie prospects this season come from franchises including The Bachelor, Big Brother, Love Island, Survivor, American Ninja Warrior, and international stars across the MTV family, including Geordie Shore, Ex on the Beach and Floribama Shore.
Here’s how MTV is describing this massive season, which follows the trilogy of Dirty 30, Vendettas, and Final Reckoning (which concluded in December): “Thirty-four competitors from around the globe will battle their way through the most grueling, physical and mental challenges for their share of the $1 million prize. New rules will unfold, alliances will be rehashed and surprising twists will arise in the grittiest, most hardcore season ever.”
Ahead of the premiere, MTV will air a The Challenge: War of the Worlds: Basic Training launch special on Wednesday, Jan. 30 at 9 p.m. ET. Then, season 33, The Challenge: War of the Worlds, premieres Wednesday, Feb. 6 at 9 p.m. ET on MTV, immediately followed by The Challenge: War of the Worlds After the Show, hosted by Justina Valentine, at 10 p.m. ET.
