Sundance Film Festival 2019 Last Minute Adds: Pics Starring Dakota Johnson, Demi Moore, Armie Hammer, Mark Duplass & More

Before the New Year rings in the Sundance Institute added five features and a Special Event today to the 2019 Sundance Film Festival taking place from Jan. 24 to Feb. 4.

This includes the world premiere of Alex Lehmann’s Paddleton which follows the friendship of two misfit neighbors, one of whom has been diagnosed with terminal cancer. Mark Duplass, Ray Romano, Ravi Patel, Christine Woods star and Mark and Jay Duplass, Mel Eslyn, Alana Carithers, and Sean Bradle produce.

In the Midnight Section, there’s two world premieres, Patrick Brice’s Corporate Animals and Babak Anvari’s Wounds. 

The logline for Corporate Animals written by Sam Bain reads: Disaster strikes when the egotistical CEO of an edible cutlery company leads her long-suffering staff on a corporate team-building trip in New Mexico. Trapped underground, this mismatched and disgruntled group must pull together to survive. Demi Moore, Ed Helms, Jessica Williams, and Karan Soni star. Jess Wu Calder, Keith Calder, Mike Falbo, and Helms produce.

Wounds, from the United Kingdom stars Armie Hammer, Dakota Johnson, Zazie Beetz, Karl Glusman, and Brad William Henke and centers around the mysterious things that impact a bartender after he picks up the phone left behind at his New Orleans bar. Lucan Toh and Christopher Kopp produce.

Two festival archive titles, The Hours and Times and The Blair Witch Project, which respectively premiered at Sundance in 1992 and 1999, are being screened again.The archive films are selections from the Sundance Institute Collection at UCLA, a joint venture between UCLA Film & Television Archive and Sundance Institute. The Blair Witch Project was an overnight sensation creating a fervor for the found-footage subgenre of horror films. Made for under $100K by Eduardo Sanchez and Daniel Myrick, the movie distributed by Artisan went on to make close to $250M WW. The Hours and Times, directed and written by Christopher Munch, is a fictionalized account of what may have happened when John Lennon and Brian Epstein went on holiday together to Spain in 1963. David Angus, Ian Hart, Stephanie Pack, Robin McDonald, Sergio Moreno, Unity Grimwood star.

The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind, screening in the Premieres section, has been named the winner of the 2019 Alfred P. Sloan Feature Film Prize, and will screen at the Festival’s Salt Lake City Opening Night.

Additionally, seven movies were confirmed as Day One Films: Apollo 11, The Edge of Democracy, Give Me Liberty, The Inventor: Out For Blood in Silicon Valley, The Last Tree, MEMORY – The Origins of Alien and Shorts Program 1. The Closing Night Film will be Troop Zero.

In addition, Sundance has announced the Pop-Up Magazine special event produced by Anita Badejo, Haley Howle, Derek Fagerstrom, and Tina Antolini. Billed as a touring “live magazine” show, created for a stage, a screen, and a live audience. Contributors, including filmmakers, bestselling authors, popular radio and podcast voices, and artists perform vivid, multimedia stories accompanied by illustration, animation, film, photography, and an original live score.
