Strictly’s Karen Clifton congratulates ex Kevin after waiting years for win

Kevin Clifton was quickly congratulated on his Strictly Come Dancing win by his ex, Karen.

The dancers broke up earlier this year after getting married during their tenure on the BBC show, and it was reportedly a bit of a tricky relationship by the end.

However all seemed to be well between them when Karen was the first to go and hug Kevin on the news of his win with dance partner Stacey Dooley.

The pair embraced for quite a long while before the other dancers and celebrities leapt to support him as well, as he broke down in tears after the announcement came.

Kevin has spoken out before about how he has had a "crazy year," perhaps alluding to his break up with Karen, and how Stacey has helped him get through with her positive attitude.

He has also signed on to perform in Rock of Ages as Stacey Jaxx in the upcoming musical, rather than taking part in the Strictly Tour.

He told his partner, Stacey: "Thank you [Stacey] so much. You’ve been so amazing and danced so well and getting this… just for being the most wonderful person to work with.

"To spend every day in training you, you‘ve work so hard and always with a smile on your face. You’re so lovely and I think the absolute world of you. Thank you so much."

Stacey paid all the credit to Kevin, saying: "You know how highly I think of you… he’s been in the final as many times as he has, your patience, you know.

"Sometimes you feel a bit of an idiot but Kev walks you through, he so deserves this, he so deserves this."

The pair were incredibly emotional when they were awarded the show’s highest honour ahead of stars Ashley Roberts, Faye Tozer and Joe Sugg, along with their dance partners Pasha Kovalev, Giovanni Pernice and Dianne Buswell.

All three were gracious in defeat, happily handing over the award to the worthy winner, Kevin, who has been in the final four times before and failed to take home the prize.

He got to the final with Susanna Reid in his first year in the competition, then again with Frankie Bridge and Kellie Bright, and finally Louise Redknapp.

He came seventh with Susan Calman, his most recent partner before Stacey waltez into his world and turned it upside down.
