Strictly Come Dancing ‘sign up’ Love Island star for first time

Sam Thompson and Zara McDermott get competitive

Strictly Come Dancing are reportedly in the process of signing up a Love Island star to compete in the series for the first time in the show’s history.

Zara McDermott was thrown into the public eye five years ago on the ITV dating show and has gone on to star in her own documentaries for the BBC.

Quickly becoming one of the broadcaster’s rising stars, the Daily Mail reports bosses believe Zara will attract a younger audience.

A source for the show said: “Zara is the perfect signing for Strictly, not only is she beautiful and glamorous but she is hardworking and will take being on the show very seriously.

“She absolutely loved the experience of documentary making and is over the moon to further her relationship with the BBC by signing up to Strictly.

“It is a dream come true for her and becoming the first former Love Island star to do so is the icing on the cake.”

Since her reality TV fame, Zara has gained a huge social media following with her fashion snaps on Instagram and hilarious Tik Tok videos with her partner and Made in Chelsea star Sam Thompson.

Previously, Zara spoke about her relationship with Sam and how there’s no pressure for them despite being in the public eye.

She told The Mirror: “We have a very normal relationship, we just make funny videos and that’s our thing we do for fun.

“I think we’ve been together too long now to feel any kind of pressure, I was thinking back to my relationships before Love Island, it’s very different.

“Everything is private, nobody knows anything about what you’re doing and all of a sudden, it’s this weird paradox life where everything is online all the time but we both really enjoy it.”

Sam’s Made in Chelsea contacts could come in handy for Zara should she sign up for Strictly this year as his best friend, Jamie Laing, featured in the show twice.

The Made In Chelsea regular was originally in the 2019 line-up but had to pull out due to an injury and was given a second chance in 2020.

Zara would make history if she were to appear in this year’s line-up as Strictly Come Dancing has yet to sign up a celebrity who has appeared on Love Island.

Last year, fans of the BBC dance show saw cameraman Hamza Yassin lift the Glitterball with Jowita Przystal.

Oher names rumoured to star in this year’s series include Angela Scanlon, Nigel Harman and Adam Thomas.

Strictly Come Dancing is set to air later on this year.
