Steven Yeun Joins ‘The Twilight Zone’; Miley Cyrus In ‘Black Mirror’
The Walking Dead alum Steven Yeun is set to appear in the first season of CBS All Access’ The Twilight Zone in the episode titled “The Traveler”, joining previously announced host and narrator Jordan Peele. Details of Yeun’s role are being kept under wraps. The CBS All Access series will be a modern reimagining of the original, which premiered in 1959 and continued through 1964. The original Twilight Zone became a worldwide phenomenon as it used socially conscious storytelling to explore the human condition and culture of the times. The godfather of sci-fi series, the show explored humanity’s hopes, despairs, prides and prejudices in metaphoric ways conventional dramas could not. Yeun, best known for his role as Glenn Rhee on The Walking Dead, most recently appeared in a starring role in Lee Chang-dong’s Burning, which premiered earlier this year at Cannes and is the South Korean entry for Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards.
Miley Cyrus has confirmed the rumors (sort of). Cyrus was asked by Howard Stern if she would, in fact, appear on the fifth season of Netflix’s anthology sci-fi series Black Mirror, on his Sirius XM show Wednesday. When Stern asked if the rumor was true, Cyrus replied, “If you guess it, then I will shake my head ‘yes,’ or ‘no,’” and Stern then told his listeners she confirmed the casting. The rumor began when Cyrus’ sister, Brandi, mentioned Tuesday on her Your Favorite Thing podcast that her sister had filmed an episode of the Emmy-winning drama. Created and written by Charlie Brooker, each episode of Black Mirror employs a different cast of actors to explore themes linked to the collision of mankind with the unforgiving technology they have created. Netflix, which has been extremely quiet about the upcoming season, wouldn’t comment when reached by Deadline.
