Spoilers: Rhona and Marlon's wedding joy turns to tragedy in Emmerdale

Can there be a couple who’ve tried to propose to each other more times than Emmerdale’s Rhona Goskirk (Zoë Henry) and Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock)? It seems that for months now one or the other has been trying to pop the question, only to be thwarted at the last minute.
Most recently Rhona tried to propose via the subtle route of having haystacks arranged in the words ‘Marry Me.’ The plan was to take Marlon for a walk to a vantage point where the romantic words could easily be seen.
Unfortunately Marlon was in a bad mood after discovering that what he thought was a great job opportunity was just a franchise scam, and he was in no mood for a nice country walk and the message went unseen.
In upcoming episodes the pair finally get into sync and propose to each other – at the same time. It’s a moment of pure joy as they’re at last on the same page and looking forward to making wedding plans.
Sadly their joy is short-lived, as Marlon goes back home to get Rhona’s ring which he’s left behind, and collapses to the ground. Unable to communicate and hardly able to recognise April (Amelia Flanagan) when she comes looking for him, Marlon has suffered a serious stroke.
As he’s rushed to hospital, it’s clear that, in Zoë Henry’s words, ‘I don’t think Marlon and Rhona’s worlds will be the same again.’
