Saturday Kitchen host urges ‘don’t look’ as crew forced to step in after blunder
Live television can turn into quite the unexpected place, and Saturday Kitchen Live is no exception to the rule.
Today’s episode of the BBC's Saturday Kitchen Live (5 August), the cooking program rapidly turned chaotic as its star guest suffered a technical issue, leaving host Matt Tebbutt to rely entirely on his improvisation skills.
TV presenter Rob Rinder was invited on the show to assist Matt with cooking one of the British chef’s most beloved summer dishes: cockle with vinegar and pepper.
As Matt was prepping the ingredients, Rob was promoting his debut into BBC’s fifth season of Amazing Hotels: Life Beyond the Lobby 2023.

In the new series, Rob Rinder teams up with Master Chef star Monica Galetti as they venture off around the world.
Rob was excitedly sharing precious moments from filming the show, as he described going “to the best hotels in the world,” which was “not about bling, but about what they deliver to their communities.”
But just as the famous barrister described a heartfelt moment when he was told the tales of a woman in her 90s dying of Covid-19, and how hotels help their local communities thrive, his speech abruptly stopped.
Fortunately, Matt quickly caught on the visible setback, and bounced off Rob’s conversation about the fact that “people need to be sustainable and give something back when working in restaurant.”
However, Judge Rob’s voice was still mute, and Matt had no other choice but to break the fourth wall with telly viewers.
“Hold that thought for a sec, I’m just going to walk you through the mariniere (sauce),” Rob said in a first attempt to prevent Rob from trying to speak further.
“Sorry we’ve lost your mic for now,” Matt finally belted out.
“So I’m going to carry on talking, let’s look at me, I’ll keep talking while we change Rob’s mic, nobody look that way,” the British chef said as he was laughing at the comical situation.
“We’re supposed to do that secretly,” Matt joked as the camera pointed towards the poor criminal barrister who seemed to be keeping his cool despite the inconvenient situation.
But all ended in relief and giggles as Rob’s voice could finally be heard again.
“Greetings everybody it’s a delight to be here,” Rob rejoiced as his mic was finally fixed.
