Sarah Ferguson details vow to Queen before she died to stand by Andrew
Sarah’s vow to the Queen before she died
The Duchess of York opened up about her closeness to her ex-husband Prince Andrew to the Loose Women panel and also confirmed she would not be attending King Charles III’s coronation in May. The 63-year-old told ITV viewers she would be there for Andrew during his “darkest times” despite not being a couple anymore.
Sarah began: “We are longer divorced than married and I believe in the three c’s – communicate, compromise and compassion.
“That’s what I do with [Andrew]. We get on because, in the darkest time of my life, he was always there for me.”
“In the darkest time of his life, I will be there for him,” she added. “The Queen of England was there for him – his mum.”
Sarah added: “I said to his mum before she died, ‘I will be there for him, I will help him on his journey.’
“We’ve all got journeys, we just need to be there with kindness and no judgement.”
Sarah insisted she will offer her unwavering support to the disgraced royal because he’s “a good man”.
The panel listened as she continued to discuss her thoughts about Andrew on the chat show.
The couple split up in 1992 after six years together but have remained close ever since.
Sarah still shares the Royal Lodge in Windsor with Andrew and travels frequently between the UK and the USA.
The royal is currently promoting her latest book, named A Most Intriguing Lady.
Similar to Sarah, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle dropped their HRH titles after they stood down as senior royals and moved to California to live independently of the Royal Family.
The Duchess of York told The Guardian earlier this week members of the Royal Family who opt to leave “can’t sit on the fence” and must decide if they are “in or out”.

She explained: “Well, you can’t have it both ways. You can’t sit on the fence and keep one foot in and one foot out. You’re either in or out.
“But then don’t cry about not being invited to weddings. You chose to leave, now go and live it – and be it.”
Discussions over whether the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will attend King Charles’s coronation have been heavily discussed on various news channels in recent weeks.
The coronation is a matter of weeks away, with 2,000 guests expected to attend the ceremony in London’s Westminster Abbey.
Harry and Meghan have not confirmed if they will be there to mark the occasion which will see King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla crowned.
However, the couple’s spokesperson has indicated they have received “email correspondence” over the ceremony.
Sarah told the Loose Women panel she will not be present at the event as she has alternative plans for that weekend.
Her ex, Andrew is set to attend but it is understood he will not play a part in the ceremony.
Loose Women airs on weekdays at 12.30pm on ITV and ITVX.
