Paul Usher's dramatic EastEnders return explained as Danny Hardcastle targets Ben Mitchell

EASTENDERS baddie Danny Hardcastle is returning to the soap for a short stint later this month.

Ben Mitchell is set to get a blast from the past when gangster Danny returns after last targeting his dad Phil in an explosive showdown – but what is he after this time?

When is Paul Usher returning to EastEnders?

EastEnders has announced that Paul will reprise his role as Danny for a short while later this month.

But exact dates are yet to be confirmed by the BBC soap.

And fans will have to tune in to find out when exactly the Scouse hardman makes his dramatic comeback to the Square.

He was last seen in Walford in April 2019.

What is Paul Usher’s comeback storyline in EastEnders?

Viewers of EastEnders last saw Danny ruffle quite a few feathers on the Square as he arrived in Walford to have it out with former associate Phil Mitchell.

Soap villains Phil and Danny had got caught up in a money-laundering scheme together in Spain.

But Phil’s antics had been responsible for destroying the questionable business and sending it into liquidation, leaving Phil in debt to Danny.

Upon his return Danny squared up to the mechanic and warned him to give him the money he was owed.

But things got messy when Ben Mitchell tried to get Danny to partner with him, leading Danny to kidnap Louise Mitchell.

Phil warned Danny never to contact him again, but it seems like his threat went in one ear and out the other as he’s set to return to the Square later this month.

Danny is set to surprise Ben with a proposition, but how will Ben react as he struggles in the wake of the boat disaster and hearing loss?

The actor said in a statement: "I'm thrilled that Danny Hardcastle has returned to EastEnders and yet again he is causing havoc in his typical menacing way.

"I am really looking forward to the viewers' reaction as the story unfolds."
