New documentary explores all twists and turns in Harry and Meghan saga
A comprehensive new Royal documentary about Harry and Meghan claims any danger to the future of the monarchy is now “lesser” after the publication of his shocking memoir Spare, and that one day, Harry might “become a wildlife presenter” — just like Sir David Attenborough.
The claims come in a feature-length, one-off film — Harry & Meghan: Where Do They Go Next? — which is going out on Channel 5 next Saturday night at 8.30pm.
Made by ITN, there are many leading Royal commentators, Royal authors and insiders, including former Royal press secretary Dicky Arbiter.
The film deals with all twists and turns in the Harry and Meghan saga over the past five years, including how they met, the wedding, Megxit, the split with the Royal Family, the flight from Canada, the Oprah Winfrey interview and Harry’s bombshell book Spare.
No royal stone is left unturned in a 90-minute rundown of the Sussexes’ turmoil.
The film speculates that after all the revelations, the worst may now have passed for King Charles and Queen Camilla.
Royal biographer Angela Levin believes so.
“I think he’s [Harry] done a lot of damage to the monarchy by being so negative. He says he wanted to have his say but it’s something that reflects very badly on him.
“I think his ability to bring down Charles and Camilla and the monarchy are lesser now the book has been published than they could have been
“They’ve [Charles and Camilla] been working very hard recently and I think that’s helped them cope with Harry’s behaviour and attacks.”
Insiders also speculate on what the couple might do next.
There are other Netflix docs in the pipeline, it’s claimed, but both may do something completely different, claims Simon Vigar, Channel Five royal Correspondent.
“I wonder whether Meghan,” he said, “will go back to acting, that’s the obvious thing for her.
“Harry could easily be a presenter of wildlife documentaries, he has the knowledge, he has the passion.”
Commentators seek to explain why the couple broke with the Royal Family.
Author Penny Junor, a friend of King Charles, believes too many big changes happened in a short space of time for Meghan.
“I think the reason for the whole upheaval here was that Meghan wasn’t happy and Harry wanted to protect her, and to make her happy.
“And she was unhappy probably because she made very big life changes in a very short space of time — she’d left her job, she’d left her country, and all her support network in America,
“She had come to a new country, she had married into a big family, and she had taken on a new job and she had a baby. All of those things are huge events and they happened in two years.”
For now, their future will continue with Netflix.
Royal journalist Phil Dampier believes the films have damaged their standing.
“Their popularity there has gone down significantly here. I don’t think the Netflix series has helped their popularity. Quite the opposite. He probably thinks, ‘I’ve made a lot of money — Mission Accomplished’, but there is a problem going forward.
“It’s all been at the expense of his relationship with the Royal Family. Only time will tell if it’s been worth it.”
He adds: “Charles, meanwhile, is adopting his mother’s attitude, ‘never explain, never complain’. He hopes the whole thing will just fizzle out, Harry will come to his senses and actually run out of ammunition.”
Writer Penny Junor concludes, “I don’t think they are getting very good advice or thinking these things through.”
