Lydia Chambers (Rebecca Ryan) plays her trump card in her mission to destroy Adam Barlow (Sam Robertson) next week in Coronation Street.
The devilish schemer has it in for Adam, and since rocking up in the eponymous street last year, she has made it her primary objective to take him down.
Thus far, we’ve seen her stalk the much-loved lawyer, harass him repeatedly with mystery phone calls, and seemingly call the police with claims he had a gun in his office in a bid to ruin his business.
But she plays her most evil stunt yet next Friday (February 25), as she lies to best friend Sarah Platt (Tina O’Brien), claiming that she’s been having an affair with Adam!
The clip above previews the scene in question, as Sarah reels from Lydia’s claims.
‘I never set out to have an affair with him,’ says Lydia, feigning emotion to make her story all the more convincing. ‘It just happened.’
Sarah is quite clearly devastated by the revelation, as she tells Lydia that they are no longer friends.
Lydia, meanwhile, goes to great lengths to make her story more plausible, claiming that Adam ‘wouldn’t give up’ on her, and she ‘couldn’t help’ herself.
Adam, however, enters the flat soon afterwards, and he picks up on the tension. His interest piqued, the lawyer asks what’s going on, which prompts Lydia to reveal what she’s told Sarah.
‘She knows’, exclaims the newcomer, which only leaves Adam all the more confused.
‘Sarah knows about our affair!’
Adam is rendered speechless, confused about the reasons why Lydia is doing this to him.
The question is: will he be able to prove his innocence?
Can he explain to Sarah that Lydia is out to mess with their relationship and that there is no truth to her claims?
Or will Sarah believe Lydia over him?
One to watch: Friday February 25 at 7:30pm on ITV.
