Netflix boss announces huge change to all new TV shows after string of shock cancellations | The Sun

NETFLIX has announced a major shakeup to all new TV shows after many got the axe.

Recently the streaming giant has cut many popular TV series – leaving fans devastated.

All series on the platform now only include eight episodes instead of ten episodes – so the show's never make it past two seasons anymore.

This comes after a slew of shocking popular show cancellations.

One of them, was the hit fantasy show – Warrior Nun which was given the chop recently after just two seasons.

It was reported by Deadline that the series did not get enough viewers for a renewed season.

Simon Barry, the showrunner revealed that the cancellation was due to the Netflix bosses deciding that it was better to cut down the episodes for monetary reasons.

He explained: “We knew it was going to be eight in the writing room because the Netflix mandate wasn’t a budget thing. It was Netflix shifting all their shows to eight-episode seasons, their studio shows I should say, not the shows they acquire and broadcast but the ones they make in-house as a studio."

“So, we knew that Netflix decided to make this shift across the board but it wasn’t something Warrior Nun was being punished for anything, we existed long enough to see it go from 10 to 8 for everyone," he continued.

As a streaming service, Netflix relies on subscription income, and in that case it makes more sense for them to have a regularly rotating lineup of shows to appeal to the broadest possible subscriber base.

HBO in the early 2010s had seasonal tentpole shows on Sundays, for example, with “Game of Thrones” in the spring, “True Blood” in the summer and “Boardwalk Empire” in the fall.

This simply means Netflix can make a higher number of shows overall, with fewer episodes per season.

This comes after the Vampire Diaries co-creators Julie Plec and Kevin Williamson's have had their latest series cut by Peacock.
