‘Married At First Sight ruined my career’ – star blasts show over ‘irreversible damage’

Married At First Sight Australia star Olivia Frazer has blasted the dating show for "ruining her career", claiming that the villain edit she received has destroyed any chance that she will ever become a teacher.

Olivia, 30, was matched with Jackson Lonie on the Australian dating show and at the time was studying to become a teacher after years spent as her late father's carer.

Speaking to Love Is Blind's Nick Thompson for his Eyes Wide Open podcast, she slammed MAFS for how she had been portrayed and claimed it had stopped her from getting her dream job.

Olivia, who split from Jackson a few months after the series ended in 2022, said: "I lost my whole career because of what they did to me on that show."

She told how she had been working as an admin assistant in the English department of "one of the most elite schools in Australia" who had been coaching her for a career in teaching while she finished her degree.

But she said: "Because of what they portrayed on the show and subsequent articles that came out, there is no way I'll ever be able to be a teacher."

Olivia had a long-running feud with another bride on the show, Domenica Calarco, which came to a head during the couples' retreat when a bitter row erupted between them during a boozy party.

Things escalated at the next dinner party when Olivia was accused of spreading revenge porn after her friends outside of the show discovered photos from Domenica's OnlyFans account, which Olivia then circulated around the rest of the cast.

However, Olivia claims the scenes were "clever editing" and says she was unfairly portrayed as a villain.

She said: "Like when my name is synonymous with revenge pornography, which is just clever editing in reality, who's gonna let that teach their children? What parent would let that teacher be a big influence on their child's life?"

Posting a link to the podcast episode on Instagram, Nick wrote: "I wanted to have Olivia on the show today to share some of her experiences during production and after the show aired, because she has been through a lot.

"Olivia was edited into a villain character on the show, and it impacted her career, her relationship, her family, her home, and her sense of safety and wellbeing."

Olivia also posted on Instagram to thank fans for their support after the episode, writing: " I've had to learn to be really tough over the last two years so anytime I allow myself to be publicly vulnerable again is so scary. Trolls are always going to troll, but the outpouring of support far outweighs them yet again."

Earlier this year, Olivia told of another romantic disappointment as she said she had moved to rural Scotland to be with a man she had met after splitting from Jackson, but later discovered he had had a secret girlfriend all along.

She said: "We spoke almost every day since we met at the start of the year and he told me he wanted me to meet his son once I got back to Scotland.

"He told me he wanted to give things a real go between us and made me feel so wanted after everything I'd been through after MAFS – but it was all lies."

The reality star added: "A lady in a pub then approached me and asked if I was still seeing him. I told her 'ah that's a bit complicated' and she said, 'Don't. He has a girlfriend. Has had a girlfriend the whole time'."
