Jake Quickenden has slammed Love Island bosses for being “too focused” on people who already have a following as he claims the ITV2 show will die down

In a new interview with Oktagon, Jake opened up on his experience of fame, warning aspiring reality TV stars: “It’s not all it’s cracked up to be.”

Touching on the future of reality TV, he explained: “I don’t think reality TV will ever fade, to be honest, it’ll always be around.

“But look at the likes of Big Brother – it was massive and then it kind of died down, X-Factor was massive and it kind of died down.

“It’s going to happen with Love Island, it’s starting to die down. I think the only big one left is I’m A Celeb, but the All-Stars version was never going to do as well as the normal version because people are afraid of change.

“I think reality TV is always going to be there, but things always kind of grow and need a bit of a mix-up.

“People are turning to YouTube and Netflix and everything is changing. But I think there’s always going to be a place for reality shows somewhere.”

Jake also admitted that he would like to see more “normal” people on the reality shows, rather than those who already have a social media following.

He added: “I think producers are too focused on bringing in people that have already got a following nowadays into these shows such as Love Island.

“I don’t care about somebody that’s promoting a Louis Vuitton handbag. I want to see Dave the bricklayer, I want to see normal people.

“There are too many people going on reality shows that have watched so much reality TV that they know how to play it.

“I want to see Dave who has no limit on what he says, he’s not bothered about getting cancelled because he doesn’t care. He doesn’t even have Instagram.”

Some of the stars of this year’s Love Island fall into the category that Jack Quickenden has spoken about.

Molly Marsh already had a large Instagram following before she entered the villa, with her mother, Janet Marsh, also starring in Coronation Street.

Tyrique Hyde also had a previous connection to former Love Island star Toby Aromolaran which set expectations for his playboy persona even higher.

However, for some such as Mitchel Taylor and Jess Harding, both have come from “normal” jobs and have gained a following on Instagram throughout their time on the show.

Love Island airs weekdays from 9pm on ITV2.
