Love Island viewers left fuming as host Maya Jama announces major format change
Maya Jama teases new Love Island series
Love Island returned to screens this evening for series 10 of the ITV2 dating series hosted by Maya Jama.
However, viewers were left raging after Maya, 28, announced the format was changing with the Islanders just minutes into the show.
Fans took to social media in droves to share their thoughts about couples being selected through a public vote as opposed to contestants selecting the person they fancied the most.
@K2likethat complained: “I don’t like how they’ve made the public vote.”
@__BGD9 said: “This Public Couple Vote Thing Is S**t.” (sic)
While @HOTLIKEJOON added: “Absolutely nobody asked the public to choose. we wanna know who the islanders would choose ffs.” (sic)
@notkamzee asked: “What public do they ask and why am I never aware ??”
“When do they do the public voting thing, I always feel like I never know about the voting before the show starts lol,” @MsDesireArtist went on to say.
@TchaakaSamira fumed: “So who did this voting? Who’s public?”
@9makiya pointed out: “I’ll be annoyed if the public coupled me up with someone I wouldn’t want to be with lol.”

The bookies have priced up the odds on who is backed to win this series of Love Island.
According to BetVictor, the female islander set to win is Molly Marsh, with her odds stacked at 5/2.
The favourite male of winning the series is Mitchel Taylor whose odds are also at 5/2.
BetVictor spokesperson Sam Boswell said: “Love Island is back on our screens tonight! We know the public is going to couple up the islanders again it will be interesting to see how that plays out.
“In our female market, Molly Marsh is leading the way at 5/2. The social media influencer and theatre performer from Doncaster is the daughter of Janet Marsh, who has appeared in Coronation Street in a number of roles – so her family are no strangers to the spotlight!”
Model Ella Thomas is the second favourite to win out of the women at 11/4.
Sam added: “The upcoming reality star from Glasgow has already warned the male Islanders ‘not to mess’ with her as she claims to be ‘wifey material’. Will Ella bring the drama?
“Leading the male market is Mitchel Taylor, at 5/2. The 26-year-old gas engineer from Sheffield wants to ‘find the one’.”
Love Island continues tomorrow at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
