The Last Kingdom season four left fans with plenty of questions after it aired on Netflix. The series, based on Anglo-Saxon history and The Saxon Stories by Bernard Cornwell, has seen many characters change across the seasons. Haesten actor Jeppe Beck Laursen spoke exclusively to Express.co.uk about whether he will pursue a relationship with Eadith (Stefanie Martini).
Will Haesten pursue a relationship with Eadith in Last Kingdom?
Haesten has been one of the main antagonists in The Last Kingdom since he joined the cast in season two.
He has had many run-ins with Uhtred of Bebbanburg (Alexander Dreymon) and is known for being a self-serving character.
However, fans saw a change in Haesten in season four, as he started to show affection for a new character.
Stefanie Martini joined the season four cast as Eadith, the former mistress of Aethelred (Toby Regbo) and brother of Eardwulf (Jamie Blackley).
At the end of season four, Haesten was seen trying to keep Eadith safe during a Danish attack on Winchester.
This is the first time he has shown signs of selflessness, even if he did go the wrong way about it.
Actor Laursen told Express.co.uk: “He really wants to feel wanted and if he can just find this one woman who can tolerate him, that’s why he changes his approach.
“He tries to woo her, he tries to be nice for once.” The actor said there is a chance he will see Eadith again in season five.
He had a great time filming with newcomer Martini and recalled one of the moments filming the final episode.
He said: “When I get Eadith and I pull her out of the castle she had a basket of bread and I was going to throw it to an extra, I almost hit him in the face.”
Even though Haesten had shown some level of kindness towards Eadith, she was clearly not interested in him.
She pulled away from him after he hid her in a secret location while the battle was taking place.
When he tried to help her escape through a crowd of warriors, she insisted she wanted to be alone and Haesten gave up.
There is not much of a chance Haesten will manage to win Eadith over in future, as she potentially has her eye on someone else.
Fans noticed a connection between Eadith and Uhtred’s friend Finan (Mark Rowley) in season four.

When asked about Eadith’s future relationships in the series, Laursen said he “would love to see Eadith and Finan together”.
However, in the books on which the series is based, Eadith forms a romantic relationship with Uhtred.
Fans have already said they would much rather see Eadith and Finan together, as Uhtred is used to getting the women.
Haesten has always gone solo, although he had a brief infatuation with the sorceress Skade (Thea Sofie Loch Naess).
In the books, he also had a wife called Brunna, but she does not feature in the series.
Fans have taken to Reddit to share their thoughts on Haesten and Eadith’s relationship.
Butterscotch-cookie said: “I rewatched season four and it only occurred to me now, what is Haesten doing with Eadith?
“Is this how he finds his wives? Did he feel sympathy for Eadith (long shot), or was it to spite Sigtryggr for talking s*** about the previous Dane lords?”
Some fans have said Haesten simply saw Eadith as an “easy target” and thought he would try his luck with her.
Legolass said: “I was VERY confused by this. He kidnaps her for safekeeping? Treats her relatively well and doesn’t try to force himself on her?
“Either I’m missing something about his intentions and actions or Haesten had a personality lobotomy with no backstory to explain the change.”
